TRAVEL INFO & SUGGESTED ACCOMMODATIONS
FOR THE COUSHATTA WORKSHOPS:
- Nearest airport: Shreveport Regional Airport (about a 55-minute drive from Coushatta)
- Recommended accommodations: Arrangements have been made for special discounted rates for my students at The Woodland Inn in Coushatta. Tasha Newcomb is the General Manager there, and you can call 318-932-4400 or email firstname.lastname@example.org and say you’re a student in one of my workshops for a discounted rate for your stay. The Woodland Inn is a 2.5-star hotel (similar to LaQuinta), the best in our very small town, and an easy 15-minute drive to our farm. Clean and comfortable with a very friendly staff, complimentary continental breakfast and free wifi. Tasha has promised to take very good care of you during your stay!
My husband and I have stayed at the Woodland Inn when we were having work done at our house, and I highly recommend it. Of course, if you don’t mind a 45-minute commute, fancier hotels are located in Shreveport/Bossier City to the north of us, and picturesque Natchitoches to the south.
FOR THE LONG BEACH WORKSHOPS:
FOR THE LONG BEACH WORKSHOPS:
- Nearest airport: Long Beach Municipal Airport (a short 6-minute drive away from our workshop location)
- Accommodations: Our workshop location is a private residence just east of Long Beach Municipal Airport. There are literally dozens of hotels in the area to choose from, all of which are just minutes away.
What brand of paints & brushes will we be using in the workshop?
You will be painting with the same professional quality paints & brushes I use in my own paintings: Old Holland, Sennelier, Rembrandt, and Vasari oils; Pebeo fine acrylics; and Princeton Velvetouch brushes. At the workshop I’ll give you a handout with a list of the supplies we use and where to find them in case you like them so much you decide to purchase some of your own.
I have trouble sitting on a stool or standing for any length of time. Will there be a table where I can sit in a chair with a back?
Absolutely! In addition to the H-frame easels with stools, there will be a spacious table with tabletop easels and chairs for those who need that kind of set-up. You will definitely have a place to paint that will suit your physical needs!
Is the workshop location wheelchair accessible?
Yes! The teaching studio at the farm in Coushatta is fully accessible, and we can set up a temporary ramp for entrance to the Long Beach house if you need it.
Will I need to take notes?
I will provide folders that you can take home with quick reference handouts containing a lot of the information we will be discussing, but you may want to bring something to take your own notes in case there is something you want to jot down for yourself.
Is there an age requirement for younger students?
I have taught students of all ages, from 4 up to 85, but for these workshops anyone 18 years or older may attend. High school students 16 or 17 years old may attend if accompanied by a parent/guardian, but both must register for the class. There is NO age limit at the upper end!
